Festive Waffles at the Christmas Market

#Blogmas

On the ninth day of Christmas...
I went to a French Christmas Market and had Les Gaufres de Noel (French Christmas waffles)
Nom nom nom.

I was on my way back from my University after a day of lectures in Tours, France (an hour outside of Paris) where I am on my year abroad placement and I saw this French Christmas market, of course I had to go in, juuuust for a little bit!!

Christmas markets are some of my favourite things EVER. They make me feel so ridiculously festive and Christmasy!

This one in particular was a long woodlandy road with rows of wooden huts decked out with fairy lights, Christmas music and festive decorations with a giant carousel and an outdoor cinema at the very end of the road. The little stalls sold a variety of different goods: some sold hand made jewellery, some sold beautifully crafted hats, some sold hand crafted wooden toys etc.

But the pride and joy of this little festive market was the food stalls....

Oh my goodness. Stalls and stalls filled with:
freshly roasted chestnuts,
 hot churros,
crepes,
waffles,
 candyfloss,
 toffee apples,
 mulled wine,
 hot chocolate,
Hot toddy,
And so much more.

(How cute is this market stall! - it has old skis, rackets and ice skates on the walls with festive deco, and enough crepes, waffles, beignets and hot drinks to feed a small army :)

All of my friends opted for the churros, crepes or the beignets (mini doughnut balls stuffed with nutella) and a glass of mulled wine or a toasty mug of hot chocolate. I on the other hand found something much better...
My choice...

 Un Gaufre de Noel
(A Christmas Waffle)

It was honestly one of the nicest things I've ever eaten and made me feel so so festive. When I got home I even researched recipes and how to make on and it is ridiculously simple!

It is quite literally a Christmas tree shaped waffle on a stick covered in Nutella and hundreds and thousands (or sprinkles if you're American :) )

Highly recommended for a festive treat or to make as gifts for friends or family.
